I just replaced the heater core on my truck. The day after I was almost forced into a accident causing me to jam on my brakes. Since then when I accelerate in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd at the top of the gear/rpm I can hear a hum which I believe to be coming from the center of the engine, I can't really tell though obviously because I'm driving when this noise occurs. So being that it stops humming when I up shift I thought maybe the transmission fluid was low or something. That would bring me to this silly qeustion of where is the dip stick and/or resevoir for the transmission fluid. I looked in the normal places it would be and magically it is nowhere to be found. So if there is a knowledgeble soul out there please help soon

From what you have described, you have a manual trans. There is no dipstick or resevoir, there is a threaded plug on the side of the trans to check the level.I don't think you are going to solve your humming, you may have worn mounts or a u-joint bad.

stick shift No Dip Stick must be checked on level ground the plug on the side of the transmeission must be un screwed counter clock wise and if fluid runs out its full or if you can put your pinky in and touch fluid it ok, if you can not touch fluid its low, ok, but this would have nothing to do with changing the heater core ok,must use gear oil recomended for the vehicle, 80w90 weight gear oil or what ever is in the manual,

When you are standing in front of your truck with the hood up, the dip stick will be on the passenger side of the motor towards the back. You will probably have to pull it from the side of the truck. Make sure the truck is running and in park when you check it. Also, no reservoir.

It should be on the left side when you open the hood back near the firewall, close to the engine, (you should always check transmission fluid when truck is warm)

You can always take it to one of those quick lube jobs and they will do it for a few dollars.

If it is an automatic then look where the others said. If it is a manual trans you need to crawl under it to check the level.
