I doubt very much that your male dog is being 'dominant' - most dogs living together don't have to keep asserting their position and his Mum is probably in charge anyway.

I would say this is just an indication of how close and familiar they are with each other.

I had two b**ches who would curl up to sleep with one on top of the other. There was only room for one in the favourite dog bed so the last one in just lay on top of whoever was already there.

The fact that your male dog lies on his back with his legs in the air is a sure sign of a very happy, relaxed dog who feels perfectly secure.

A male dog who felt that he had to keep proving himself as the alpha male would be constantly tense and could not relax even while sleeping.

I have a boxer/rott male who sleeps on his back & legs all over too!
I would say it's because she has not taught him otherwise & obviously she does not mind it when he does sit on her. Sounds like he's probably an alfa & he is domanating. Mine does similar things for attention from either the female or myself or both. Constantly.

How wonderful to have such a contented dog! It is very funny looking when a large dog is all stretched out laying on it's back. Dogs don't relax on their back unless they are content. Does yours roll around also?
