My Model UN Club at my community college needs some money to be able to attend a model un competition in san francisco which takes place in April. Also, theres another UN Event in New York. We;re located in southern cali, the community college. The school has agreed to cover some of the costs but primarily we need to fundraise ourselves.
The San francisco trip would be about $2000 and the new york approx. $7000.
How can we raise the money without continuing our small, lame bake sales that bring only about $50?
I was thinking perhaps contacting all my local news stations to cover my story and have people donate that way. Yet i assume the majority of people would donate only if it is tax deductible for them...so how can i make this happen?
Other suggestions are welcome. Thank you so much!

Have a cultural fair or dinner and serve foods from different lands. Charge a small fee for people to attend.

Your extra activities are great, but unfortunately that alone won't help you get into your choice of colleges. Lucky for you, your GPA holds, and GPA is a major factor in many colleges even if your SAT score is not as high as it should be. If you had about a 1800 or 1900 on the SAT, I would say you would get in all those colleges without any problem, but since your SAT score is low, they have become targets. You still have a very good shot, so don't stress that much. Just Study hard for your ACT, try getting a 25. But for the most part you are fine. I guarantee you will get into at least 2 out of the 3 colleges you displayed in your post.

Are you in a large city or a small town? I agree with the previous poster re holding a cultural dinner. I think that you can also look at some creative ideas such as auctioning off a dinner date with one of your members. Or how about organizing a speed dating event so that people can meet? You just need a venue and then perhaps a small fee that people are willing to pay.
