John is a deadbeat dad, just as his father was to his first set of kids.How can I get him to think of his kids

He probably never will. Unless his kids become successful and rich... and that'd only be to use them.

You need to raise your kids better than that. IT's all up to you!

There's not much you can do. He has to want to be a good dad all on his own. If his not willing then just write him off. My ex is like that with 2 of our 3 kids. He only cares about the first one born. As for the other two they mean nothing to him. He use to try and play them against each other for kicks. He'd buy the oldest a great Christmas gift and the other two would get some cheap piece of junk. His a jerk and now he'll grow old and die lonely. all the great times his missed out on with his kids and grand kids. TOO BAD. When his sitting all alone in his chair wondering why they never come to see him he just blame it on his stupidity.

Unfortunately no matter what you try, you can't _make_ someone take on responsibility if they don't want to. There could be any number of reasons why, but that is immaterial.

You can invite him to participate in the lives of your children, but he has the ultimate choice as to whether or not he will take up the invitation.

If he chooses not to, that is not your fault. All you can do is be the best parent you can.

Can't teach an OLD DOG new tricks..the kids are better off without their dad...you can't make him care for his kids, he had no teacher to show him how to be a dad...and now you want their dad in their life, he is already showing them how to be a dead beat dad...so better you move on...and teach your kids what a good mother is...
