Light lamps for victims: Vanamamalai Jeer

CHENNAI, JULY 20. Kaliyan Vanamamalai Ramanuja Jeer of the Vanamamalai Mutt today called upon the people to light traditional lamps in their homes and nearby temples tomorrow (around 6 p.m.) and observe a two-minute silence in memory of the July 16 Kumbakonam fire victims.

In a statement, the Jeer said the Mutt and its branches and the temples would do so.

The Government and the people should take efforts to ensure that such accidents did not recur.

The School Teachers Federation of India urged the State Government and the Centre to ensure safety in schools.

`Take action against managements'

In a statement, the State president, K.Rajendran, said action should be taken against managements, which failed to provide safety and basic facilities in schools.
