Bodhidharma was asked what is the fundamental principle of Buddhism and he said, "Vast Emptiness with nothing Holy in in." Buddhism is not a religion! To worship Buddha is a mistake, unless you are bowing to the Buddha inside, your true self. Just as in other religions, people make the mistake of making the founder a God, thereby rendering his message meaningless, for no mere mortal could possibly emulate it. So with religious objects like incense sticks, altars, etc. Nothing sacred there. What is sacred cannot be the product of man's thought.

Not really - all those are just reminders of what's really important - life itself, and the ultimate truth, nothingness (nirvana) and so forth - naturally, there are so many forms and shapes of Buddhism that it's impossible to generalize, but principally, objects don't matter that much. However, I am not a Buddhist and might be totally wrong.

Maybe you could read up on Buddhism. You make them sound like their sorcerers or alchemists.

From what little I know (I'm only a baby Buddhist), meditation is a very important part of the "religion." I put it in quotes, because it *is* very diverse and it's at least as much psychology and philosophy as "religion." Meditation is a great way to listen to your mind. You mind never stop whirring and whooshing... like a river. Try to concentrate only on your breathing... you can't (at first) you realize that your mind keeps throwing things up.
