Oxycontin is sustained release morphine tablets. The half life of an oxycontin is about 12 hours. Oxycontin can be administered in 15 mg tablets to hundreds of milligrams every 8 hours.
Hydrocodone is immediate release pain pill usually known as Lorcet or Vicodin. It used as a quick relief pain pill.
Codiene is a immediate release pain pill which comes in varying doses. You would know these as Tylenol #2.#3 or #4.
Depending on how quick you would like pain relief and the dose would be the deciding factor in which one works the best for you.

Depends a lot on how severe the pain is. Any of the 3 will affect your mental processes. Codeine stops the peristalgic movement of the bowel. If you don't monitor your stool movements you can become blocked back and front, an unpleasant experience to say the least. Take Sennacot to make sure all is well. 'Better' is subjective. Addiction is a certainty for long term use.

Physical dependence and addiction are two different things. If you have a chronic pain problem that is having a negative impact on your life, then regardless of the risk of dependence or addiction, take what ever you need to keep the pain away. Symptoms of coming off any drug can be lessened through weaning. People who advocate "cold turkey" are getting pleasure from your suffering. Kill your pain, don't define anything else.
Beware...it is the Acetaminophen with the codeine that will cause you more problems as it damages the liver.

No. Oxycodone is synthesized from Thebaine, between the alkaloids of the Papaver Sominiferum poppy, as is Hydrocodone. Codeine and Morphine are 2 SEPERATE alkaloids of the comparable plant... So Thebaine, Codeine, and Morphine all come from the comparable plant yet are 3 distinctive alkaloids interior that plant.... relatives, yet no longer at each and all the comparable subject. So Oxycodone and Hydrocodone, that are the two derived from Thebaine, are on the subject remember of Codeine, yet are actually not created from codeine or derived from codeine, they are derived from Thebaine... they have not any codeine in them, and many times won't reason issues in human beings allergic to codeine. i'm allergic to it besides and that i take Oxycodoen daily without issues.

None of the above, Dilaudid rules if you can get a Dr. to write for it.
It's really a shame that the government even controls our physicians.
