whenever i use program like Azureus or eMule and are downloading many files all at once (very large files in 500 MB and above), the program crashes every 5 minutes or so... Is it because I don't have enough RAM... i only have 512MB... and a Pentium 4 at 2.4GHz... i already ran anti-virus, anti-spyware program a few times... apply all the latest windows updates and XP SP2 pack.....and unselected startup item using msconfig....

USEE LINUX. :) You wont get those nasry crashes... and u got enough RAM.... The reason why your crashing alot is coz ur opening up both azerus and emule togther and u know hoe much of aresourc hog azureus is.... even if u do upgrade RAM..ur systm would still run slow with both programs opened together:) linx however knows how to manage heavy use. :)

I cannot blame the RAM. And I don't think the System config is so bad. Its still a DDR1 RAM (Probably running at 33MHz or 400Mhz). My suggestions are listed below:

01. Please run a Drive Properties (By rightclicking on the C: Drive and going to properties) > Tools > Error-checking. Check whether it returns any error. Incase an error is returned try fixing it. Incase crossed-linked files or damaged files appear try recovering it.

02. Please check whether your virus scanner is up to date. Incase your virus scanner is out of date please update it. Incase you are running an expired or outdated version of the virus scanner please download AVG Scanner free from
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

Its just some 16MB file. Once the download is over disconnect from the net and uninstall your existing virus scanner and restart your machine and then install AVG vuirus scanner. Run a thorough scan and then connect to net.

For checking spywares please use Ad-Aware SE.[Downloadable from www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ ]

03. Please uninstall the software application which you use for download, restart the machine and reinstall it. Sure it will solve these problems.

You can increase the RAM capacity if your computer mother board has the provision. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

Mass downloading is problematic particularly if you are dial up, regardless of ram.

One file at a time is optimum. If your needs are greater, you ram should be also.

No matter how souped up your PC is, keep multi-tasking to a bare minimum! Only if necessary type of situation.
