I need some ideas on home made dog food. I have a 2 month old blue pit bull, and I don't think dry dog food is enough. I'm currently feeding him with Royal Canin Baby Food (Large Breed); but i don't think that's enough. I want him to have a strong massive body, not just like the regular ones. Maybe there's something else I can feed him, home made food, vitamins....etc....Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Here's a site with vitamins I plan on giving mine. My folks feed them to their show dogs and my little gurl is going to be shown as well.

I believe in the idea of raw food although I don't know if it should be carried quite so far as most of the "BARF" people do. BARF makes patties which they recommend be fed once a day and the other meal is to be completely raw. I'm thinking I will feed them once a day and feed regular food that has veggies (always blended) on top. I also think that the type of food you feed should be changed around once every 3 months or so. Pro Plan Select is good quality food designed for breeders and those of us who know more about nutrition. And Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul is another good quality food. The Royal Canin is decent as well.

Edit: I've heard good things about Solid Gold vitamins just no personal experience.

I like Solid Gold, Hunden Flocken dog food. It is a dry dog food. Rice base dog food. No corn meal in it. So the dog doesn't poop a lot. And this is good. Means the food is being utilized. And I like Solid Gold Sea Meal, it is a mineral, vitamin I sprinkle on the food. BUT the best thing you could do is to contact this site I have posted. They know all about pits. They will be happy to give you the best advise. These people love pits and take good care of the breed.

I would get a vets opinion, because you are misinformed if you don't think the dry food is sufficient. It is. Most brands of good quality dog food provide all the nutrition your dog needs. That being said, there are a lot of people feeding their dogs raw food, and they are thriving on it. Excercise is going to make your dog strong.

Anyhow, check out this website about feeding raw.

My dalmatian got urethral stones and couldn't have regular dog food because of the high protein the vet told me to give him cooked rice and scrambled eggs he loved it but I would be careful not to give to much to any dog it may upset their tummy also make sure you cook the eggs first! Also now I have a dog allergic to wheat so sometimes we give her rice with a little garlic added to her food because she gets bored with dry food she is a little spoiled she would like to have all people food!!!

You can do a quick search on yahoo or google and come up with heaps of sites for recipes, my husband and I buy a mince from teh supemarket for our dogs that is ready to cook, we add rice, vegtables, and more galic to help with flea control, also twice a week we add egg ontop of the meat for shine to their coats (we have husky cross german shepards) they thrive on it, just be careful what you feed you dog as to much of a high fat diet can casue problems in the heart and that, talk to your vet or a registred breeder that may be able to help also look for a group on yahoo groups that you can talk to people on! Good luck

homemade dog biscuts, and food

U CAN BAKE THEM TO MAKE DOG TREATS, OR USE THE MIX AS REGULAR FOOD

HERE IS THE RECEIPT:

6 RAW EGGS
2 CUPS OF RAW OATMEAL
1 CUP FLOUR
1/2 CUP CORN MEAL (THE TYPE USED TO MAKE TORTILLA'S)
FRESH CUT UP PARSLEY SNIPPS, DICED EXTREMELY WELL
1 CUP OF GROUND HAMBURGER, OR STEAK, KEEP THE FAT ON IT
THE DOG WILL NEED THIS
1-3 CUPS WATER THIS WILL VARY
1/2 CUP VEGGIE OIL

MIX ALL TOGETHER IN A VERY LARGE BOWL UNTIL IT COMES TO A COOKIE LIKE DOUGH OR WHEN IT COMES TO THE CONSITANTCY OF WHEN U MAKE BISCUTS
FOR SAUSAGE GRAVY AND BISCUTS

LAY OUT ONTO A LIGHTLY FLOURED SURFACE, CUT WITH COOKIE CUTTERS
SHOULD BE NO BIGGER THAN A 1/2 INCH THICK, AND NO LONGER THAN 1 & 1/2 INCHES LONG

PLACE ON A WELL FLOURED COOKIE SHEET, DO NOT GREASE COOKIE SHEET, THIS WILL MAKE THEM TOO GREASY FOR YOUR DOG.

MAKE SURE THAT U PREHEAT THE OVEN TO 250 * F

PLACE CUT OUTS INTO THE OVEN AND BAKE FOR 1 HOUR, KEEP AN EYE ON IT.

TAKE OUT OF OVEN AND LET COOL, MAKE SURE THE BISCUT IS HARD WHEN U TAKE IT OUT OF THE OVEN, IF NOT BAKE LONGER

IF U DON'T WANT TO MAKE BISCUTS OUT OF IT, THIS IS WHAT U CAN DO

MAKE THE MIXTURE, DO NOT BAKE

DIVIDE IT UP INTO MEALS, PUT IN A ZIP LOCK BAG. PUT MIX INTO THE FRIDGE

IT WILL KEEP UP TO ABOUT 2 WEEKS
FREEZE WHAT U DO NOT NEED

2-4 HOURS BEFORE FEEDING TIME, TAKE OUT OF FRIDGE, LET COME TO ROOM TEMP, (DOGS WILL NOT EAT COLD FOOD)
AND SERVE

IF TAKING OUT OF FREEZER, 4-6 HOURS IS NEEDED TO THAW AND LET COME TO ROOM TEMP
