My shrink said 300 mg of effexor xr is higher than the fda recommends but it is safe. I have been on that dose for 8 months and the biggest side effect is decreased sex drive. However, i also take paxil 60mg and clonopin 5mg. This cocktail is what keeps me in this world most of the time. Just trust your dr and follow what he says.

peace&hope

If you are prescribed by your doctor to take this medication, then he probably gave you the right dosage for you. that dosage is just enough and right for your body so it is important for you to follow your dosage. Effexor should not be taken smaller or bigger than the dosage that is given to you for it can cause you risk. on the other hand, it will still depends on your body and on how it will react on it. There could be some list of the possible side effects if you take wrong dosage. do a google with pharmacyescrow.org/s3203-s-EFFEXOR that would give you lots of information about Effexor and don't worry its safe.

Everyone responds differently and your health care professional can help you to ensure that you are taking a prescribed amount appropriate for your weight and age. Yes without going into details it can be very dangerous. Don't even think about this one. For you to be on a pharmaceutical like this you really need to be seen by your doctor. These drugs can cause you great trouble physiologically, especially if you are taking them with anything else. Your future is too bright to dim it with effexor. Sincerely, H

I've been taking 300mg of effexor for around a year now. I think the recommended higher doses ie. 300 plus, are normally given in hospital, but as long as you are having regular check ups, blood pressure and blood checks, and you feel okay, then it's fine. It is definitely within the normal dose range.

Hope this helps.

As your prescription is administered by taking into account your weight, age and present state of health, any dosage above that prescribed can be dangerous. But you would show signs of overdose before too much damage was done and medical intervention at that stage would simply lead to a cleansing of your system, ie. stomach pump, and probably a prolonged and enforced hospital stay.

I was on 340 mg by my doctor. He said that some doctors have gone as 450 but he would not recommend it as he stated 'that was cowboy country'.

I think the range of answers illustrates that differnt people require different doses. My husband finds 150mg a day works best, with the other drugs he takes. Its better to know the details of your meds as only you know yourself enough to know what is best. Ask you chemist for an info sheet if your Dr won't give you the info you need.
