My doctor prescribed Celexa for me today and I'm currenltly taking it. I'm really skeptical about the drug and am not sure what to think of it as I've never heard of it. Can someone please provide some insight as about the relief or hell I'm about to go through?

Well, you can look it up at www.celexa.com

It is an anti-depressive that works on your brain chemistry. It works for some and sometimes it causes problems. The problem is that you can't tell until you try it. It will take time to be beneficial (if it works for you).

If you feel bad after being on it, tell your doctor as there are many meds for you to go through and just may find one that helps. . .Good Luck

I have been on Celexa for about 5 years. After having a complete hysterectomy, my DR. gave this to me. As with any anti-depressant, it will take about 3-4 weeks for it to work properly. So I would suggest that after 5 weeks or so you feel no change in your mood ask for something else. I have had no side effects per say.......the only thing that I have experienced is if I run out and haven't taken it for about 4-5 days, I get a bit light headed and dizzy, esp. with quick head movements. After taking it again, that all goes away. So if you use this medication for an extended period of time and then decide that you no longer need it, consult your DR. for help before you stop taking it. Overall, I feel that this medication is wonderful and since I have taken it for so long, I only take it every other day, sometimes every 3rd day. The reason why I continue to take it is because of my hysterectomy, I want to make sure that this "going through the change" thing is over with. I have heard that the change could last up to 10 years. Better safe than sorry. It does come in a generic form so that will save you some money. Good Luck and I hope this has helped.

CELEXA IS A ANTI-DEPRESSANT, BUT IT CAN BE USED FOR OTHER AILMENTS AS WELL, DEPENDING ON WHAT YOUR SYMPTOMS ARE IM SURE YOUR DOCTOR WOULD NOT GIVE YOU ANYTHING THAT WOULD BE HARMFULL. WITH DEPRESSION OR OTHER MENTAL PROBLEMS IT IS ALL A PROCESS OF ELIMINATION. WHAT WORKS FOR ONE PERSON MAY NOT ANOTHER I HAVE BEEN ON SEVERAL MEDICATIONS OVER THE YEARS AND SOME HAVE WORKED AND SOME HAVE NOT JUST KEEP TRYING AND DON'T GIVE UP HOPE .
