Assalamoalakum Sister,
If they think women in hijab are scary, they have a lot of issues. Women with hijab are the most trust-worthy women on the planet. If American women were to be friends with a woman wearing a hijab, they would never have to worry about their husbands looking at us. lol. I am an American woman who wears hijab, and to be honest, it doesn't bother me when I get stared at, or when people don't want to be friends with me. If they don't want to befriend me because I'm wearing a hijab, then they are bigotted and selfish. And look at the friends they are going to pick. They won't have the morals of Muslim women, that's for sure. And wearing the hijab is a great way to sort out who your real friends are. Your real friends, whether Muslim or not, will love you and accept you for who you are completely. The truth is that people in non-Muslim countries won't be satisfied with us until we become like western women, and since we never will become like western women, they will never be happy with us. The best thing to worry about is whether Allah is happy with us. That is the most important thing, sister. Assalamoalakum, Sis Safiyah

why arent people scared of the nuns clothing. they cover more so than some muslim women.. Also in the past didnt christian women wear scarves.. I can remember you couldnt enter some churches unless your head was covered and you wore gloves..... People are always weirded out by others customs and what they wear..
I think I would respect a lady far more if she dressed convervatively then showing up in a see through blouse with micro blue jean shorts so tight, they looked like they were painted on, and makeup so heavy you'd need a chisel to remove it.

I live in an area where there is no majority to speak of. Everyone is becoming very mixed in religion and race. I don't find them frightening at all, but if someone from the other side if the country saw this mixed neighbourhood they would be shocked.

People generally fear the unknown. Period.
I'm a muslim woman and i STILL feel uncomfortable talking to another muslim woman who has her face covered. When you only see someone's eyes while telling a story, it's hard to make out what their facial expression is - a basic feature when you're having a conversation.

This is an excellent question. I had never known the reason I kind stared at them was because they were scary looking. Just the eyes you know. But that is so true. Like the guys with the ski masks only the eyes show. Must be part of our psych. Now that you have alerted me to this I will try to understand that it is just a fear of not seeing an actual face because as a part of the American society we are used to it. I maybe can understand that not wanting to expose their faces is not creepy. I will take some getting used to because I have been trained that that type of dress is bizarre and I have nothing to compare it to in my mind.

I'm not scared by it, even though I live in an area where there aren't very many Muslims. Many people wear special clothing or jewelry because of their religions.

Because they don't understand that we are all one.
The Creator made each and every one of us beautiful and special and lovable
We all begin each statement "I AM" no matter the language.
I am so sorry that some people do not know how to LOVE but be sure they came here to learn...
Bless you!

Because people are afraid of what they don't understand. It's just like the Amish, or people who dress in punk or goth. People think that they are weird just because of what they look like. What should matter is the size of their heart, not the style of their clothes!

I think it's simply fear of the unknown. They're not familiar with your religion ... so it makes them uneasy. A lot of people try to cover up their fear ... with rudeness. It's a "mask" of sorts, so that others can't see the fear in their eyes.

The hijab is not scary. But you have been raised under the mindset of servile obedience to men. You have lived this way since childhood, so you are not aware that you are a repressed woman.
Women in Iran who commit adultery are stoned to death - even today - all in the name of the Quran and Allah. Even women SUSPECTED of adultery are beaten to an inch of their lives How do you reconcile this? "Honour killings" occur in the Muslim world. A Muslim girl marries a Christian man in Iraq and her father is duty-bound by Islam to kill his daughter. Justify that.....
