Don't be afraid to repeat his favorites. If you learn his favs, he will look forward to seeing you and doing that activity.
Try this, it's totally weird and kids love it. Get a large bowl, a cake pan actually works better, mix equal parts cornstarch and water together. It's liquid until you put pressure on it, then it becomes so solid it breaks! So, weird! Like liquid silly putty.
If you give him baths, let him bring kitchen stuff in to play with. Slotted spoons, spatulas, anything not glass. Moms don't usually allow this, and kids find it wonderful. If not in the bath, fill up the kitchen sink. You have to watch him close, but it's still fun for them.
Eat dinner as a picnic on the floor. Preferably under the dining room table. For added effect, use a sheet to make a fort. You will be the hands down favorite sitter!
Other than that, you don't need many bells and whistles, just play with his toys with him. His parents probably paid plenty for them, may as well enjoy them.

3 is such a fun age! Have you tried 'board' games like Mr. Bucket, Elefun, Lucky Ducks, Whac-a-Mole...? They're so much fun for the kids and some are educational!!!
Also, and much more inexpensive, once a week, my daughter and I tape brown roll paper on the bottom half of a wall (and newspaper on the floor) and go crazy with finger paits!! We boh have a great time and she gets to be as creative as she wants to be!!
*Good luck! I hope you find some good ideas on here!

Bring some crayons and drawing paper. Tell him to draw a pretty picture for his mom. Bring coloring books or let him use his own coloring stuff. See if his mom could save some old cardboard boxes and help him build a play castle.

So build a castle with him...or better yet, make a fort for him out of blankets draped over a table, or bed or something...interact with him rather than trying to set him up to entertain himself...he's still too young for that. Also you can fake hurt yourself,(act like your tripped, or hit yourself in the face,)...3 yr. olds will laugh until they can't hardly breathe at that. They think it's hilarious, as long as you don't act like your crying....

Mix it up a little. Have him used large sheets of paper to draw the roads his trucks can go on, then have him build buildings to go over the drawings of the road. Boys love stories about rescues, and search and destroy, so try those too. For instance, he can draw flames out of paper to tape to the buildings so that it's on fire, then he can send in his rescue trucks to put the fire out. Good luck!

Just bring him a really big box, a few different hats and some paint. Let him paint the box then let him play in it. Tell him to put each hat on and pretend that he is that thing in the box..fireman, sailman, policeman etc. Kids love boxes..I don't know why.

You could try children's TV shows or movies, finger painting, reading and looking at books, going for a walk, building blocks, coloring books with crayons, puzzles.
