Speaking in tounges is one of th 21 gifts of the spirit. Another one of the gifts is the ability to interpret the language that is spoken. In 1 Corinthians 14:33, It says that God is not the author of confusion, but of peace. if you are in the church and someone starts "speaking in tounges", and then another person does the same, then you know that it is not of the Holy Spirit. There must be Order when someone speaks tounges, there must be a beliver there who has the gift of interpretation there or else that person could be making up things. If you still don't understand read 1 Corinthians chapter 14.

They have complete control. They can start and stop speaking in tongues whenever they want. They can pray in tongues at will. It is just not them speaking, it is the Holy Spirit. It is not spooky or strange. It is just allowing the Holy Spirit to speak (pray) through you. It has nothing to do with "out of control."

most likely just worked up and saying the first things that come to mind even if they make no sense.
Other wise they are supposed To be speaking in the language of Heaven or the Original language of humanity before the tower of Babel.

People do not speak "demonic tongues", they are just mentally vulnerable because they believe that there are "demons" that can take possession of their bodies at any given time. As a consequence of this certain people fall into a psychological state in which they believe that they are possessed and they speak in gibberish and their body squirts all over the place as a reaction to what they believe is a "demonic possession".

This site is very interesting, and might shed some light on things.

But no, I doubt they control it themselves. They COULD, but I just doubt it.
(And hey, I have the gift of deciphering...so if you can speak in tongues, just come on over and I'll translate how much God is telling you to give me; mmm'kay?!?)

Let's try again: tongue means 'language' or the organ inside your mouth. Since 'speaking in organs inside your mouth' doesn't make sense, 'speaking in tongues' must mean 'speaking in languages'. Well, don't we ALL 'speak in tongues', then? Or in 'one tongue' at least?

People who speak in tongues could just be hysterical.
If God wants to talk through somebody why would he do it in code?
Let's be reasonable, folks!!!
