I have studied my stammering friend’s case and found so many reasons behind his problem. Some of them may match with yours and some may not, even none may match, as there may be so many reasons behind stammering.

My friend had a not so happy childhood. He was a victim of child abuse and domestic cruelty. He grew in very difficult circumstances and later on encountered an unsuccessful romance, unsuccessful academics, and a job far lower than he wished.

He stammered a lot in his teens than as time passed his stammering reduced successively; however, I have seen him stammering when ever losing his temper or being in distresses.

In all I conclude that stammering is not a physical problem. It is purely a psychological ailment and is curable without any medicines. It may be an expert professional or may be you, yourself. Yes my dear, you can cure yourself… just try the following:

•Always remember that the person or the crowds to whom you intend to speak are not running away… THEY HAVE AMPLE TIME TO LISTEN TO YOU… HENCE, SPEAK PATIENTLY, WORD BY WORD
•People do not like fast speakers. You should BREAKUP SENTENCES AND PRONOUNCING EACH WORD DISTINCTLY without making haste.
•The people with whom you talk, even your boss or your father, who might be looking something different from your category are common people alike you. HENCE, REMEMBER THAT THEY ARE YOUR OWN PEOPLE.
•Do not be meek while speaking. BE BOLD AND LOUD ENOUGH WHILE SPEAKING.
•Remember that YOU ARE GOING TO SPEAK AND NOT GOING TO ATTACK or dominate the person, with whom, you are going to interact.
•READ BOOKS OR NEWS PAPER ALOUD for half an hour daily and ask some body of your family or friend to listen to it.
•SMILE WHILE YOU SPEAK WITH RELAXED FACE AND RELIEVED EYEBROWS.
•SING IN THE BATHROOM AT THE TOP OF YOUR VOICE and let the neighbors know the timing of your baths.

In all, BE A BIT CARELESS while speaking… looks strange. Yes, the world of human psychology is quite strange…

I have always wondered if a low dose of an antidepressant would help. It seems like it would act like an anti-anxiety medicine and relax you. You wouldn't waste but $19 to try: http://www.inhousepharmacy.com/anti-depressants/generic_zoloft.html
If you decide to try them, check with your doctor. Zoloft is perfectly safe. The side effects will only last a few days. It will take two weeks for the medicine to begin helping if it does. It doesn't start immediately like other medicines.

Take your time to say the word. Practice speaking it out. If this does not work, see a speech therapist.
