the home depot deals with whom ever can supply them the best deal. most times they deal directly with producers when they are buying large quanties. if they buying smaller amounts of stuff they might deal with a wholesaler and buy lots of smaller amounts but combine them to buy more in bulk shipments. that way the wholesaler is collecting all the items and shipping them to homedepot in shipments that they put togethere as required. ie like 5 robertson long screw drivers 3 philips and 10 flat ones with 6 saw blades and 12 carbide blades for a certain store and department along with other items. saves them the labour of collecting all of them. where as lumber they buy in bulk, and will buy full loads of 3/4 plywood for one store along with other wood products
