I've only been to a few weddings, but no one "asked" for gifts. The purpose of wedding gifts is to help young couples that are starting out in life. If you're on your 3rd marriage, you've already got the normal "stuff" that are given as gifts.

The proper ediquette is to first of all spell etiquette correctly. Um, the proper etiquette is to get married 20 times and each time both expect and act surprised each time "ooh, a present for me?"

It is NEVER ok to ask for gifts, 1st, 2nd or 3rd marriage. Besides, what could you possibly need after three marriages.

When do you ever really ask for gifts? With a normal invitation, why not let your guests decide, unless you would specifically ask that gifts not be given.

Weddings are not fund raisers. It's never okay to ask for gifts. That's what Miss Manners would say ;~)

Personally, I don't think I would ever ask for gifts. Let people do what is in their hearts to do. If you get some great, if not... oh well. Congratulations on your wedding!!

It depends on your situation. If you seriously need things like a new toaster or something then yes, ask for gifts. Otherwise it might be kind of tacky. Maybe ask for donations to a charity or if you're going on a trip ask for donations towards that. All depends on your own financial situation. If you need stuff - don't be afraid to ask....if it's obvious that you don't need stuff, then maybe go the charity route.

I think you should leave it open to your guests to decide. I'm sure there will be some guests who wont want to go to the wedding empty handed. I say be happy with what you get, and hope that they all aren't toasters. :D
