What criminal acts? What serious crimes? This story has an updated dateline of April 7, 2005. It is old news, if it is news at all.

The story says the alleged "forced posing" event was video-taped by the Minute Men involved. The video tape was provided to authorities who viewed it and said "no chargeable offense." End of story, except no word whether or not the Mexican involved actually got to keep the T-shirt.

In my opinion, the Minute Men are providing a valuable and patriotic service to the undermanned, underfunded Border Patrol. The Minute Men do not detain or arrest anyone: they simply report what they see to the legal authorities who are then responsible for any further action that is taken. Think of them as a Neighborhood Watch group. Well-equipped and armed, but watchers all the same.

Every citizen has a right and a civil obligation to report crimes in progress, which is what the Minute Men do. It is a crime to enter the United States of America anywhere except at designated Ports of Entry, where every "visitor" is scrutinized for appropriate documentation and purpose. That is just one of the rights that any sovereign nation claims.

On the other hand, it is NOT illegal to leave the United States of America by whatever means you choose. Remember the Berlin Wall and East Germany? Many were shot and killed for trying to leave that Communist "workers paradise" before the walls came down and Germany re-unified. No machine guns or anti-personnel mines at our borders to keep citizens inside.

As long as there is a job market for "illegals" here in the States, they will try to come here. It is employers seeking ultra-cheap labor who foster the demand, and Americans seeking low-cost fruits of those labors who abet them.

I don't blame the illegals for seeking a better life. That's what those few escapees from Communist countries were seeking, and the ones that made it across the border were welcomed with open arms.

Starting hundreds of years ago, most of our ancestors left their homes to come to America for the same reason: opportunity to start over and build a better life for themselves and their children. The same thing has been happening ever since. We take in just about anybody. But there has to be some fairness about who gets in and who gets to stay here. That can only happen if we control entry through our borders.

I feel that the Minute Men have shown great restraint . I also feel that the Minute Men were activated to deal with a problem that U.S. authorities would not or could not handle. It is to be expected that some incidents will occur that are not pleasing to the illegals, but I haven't read of any massacres (such as those perpetrated by coyotes) of foreign nationals by the Minute Men.

Perhaps this grass roots action will spur our government to deal with this problem once and for all and stop flip-flopping on this illegal immigration issue.

Remember, any reaction that U.S. citizens take is just that - a reaction. We are not crossing the Mexican border illegally. It's the other way around. You don't see U.S. citizens sitting alongside la frontera, waiting to grab a passing Mexican by their ankles and drag them across the border into the U.S. When you trespass - stuff happens.

There's an old saying that the mojados (wetbacks) should bear in mind: If you jump over enough fenceposts, sooner or later one of them's going to get you.

How to you feel about your people commiting the crimes they do, do you really think that all illegals are innocent hard working people, two immigrants just killed an 19year kid from my hometown, for every minuteman out there, there are thousands more ilegal immigrants. What do you feel about that?

Serious? I suppose that depends on which side of the fence you happen to be from. I think a full scale invasion is definitely more serious.

The minutemen are not out there to get the illegalls. They are out there to stop terrorists, and drugs entering the country. Plus if people are getting in here illegally go home. Our country is already going through troubles, you don't need to be here.

Actually, I feel pretty good! Oh, I realize that feeding and watering the guy is very, very bad, since it violated his "rights", but at least he got a t-shirt out of the deal!

Asking for a souvenir photo is definitely worse than trespassing and fraud.
