He is my boy. Will be 11 years old in February and is a german shepard/labrador mix. He is slowing down. After all he is an old dog for his size. A friend said he might be turning the dish over because his cataracts are so bad. This didnt make a lot of sense to me.

Buy a heavy weighted bowl. Maybe it has an odd smell to him or he may want fresh water.

That strikes me as odd that your dog is just now starting to do that....because my dog (a Boston terrier, 3 years old), tries to turn her food bowl over every day and has done it all her life....she pushes it around with her nose and nudges over and over again until she can get a few pieces on the floor...then she eats them up....I don't know why she does this but her eye site is just fine. When I first brought her home as a puppy, she wouldn't eat unless I gave her food out of my hand or placed a piece here and there on the floor....so maybe it is my fault...either way it is not an unhealthy thing to do, unless you have super dirty floors....I think maybe some dogs just prefer to eat it that way! Also, maybe it is easier for him to consume....because he doesn't like getting his nose in it now? Just a guess...but I really would not worry.

I once had a dog that did the exact same thing! Maybe the bowl is dirty and needs to be cleaned. I sure wouldn't want to eat in a dirty food bowl! Or he could just be playing...

Try a different dog food brand. It might be his way of telling you that he wants a different typre of food. He will eat it when he becomes hungry but see if a softer moister type will be easier for him now that he is a senior.

maybe he isn't happy with his food or life in general? you should keep an eye on him and see what is upsetting him. try some different food and see if he likes it better.

Maybe he needs some variety. Try some gourmet fare on him.
