HI JORDY.........The Painter here.........I wouldn't want you to think that I was just another one of the young folks on answers with no back ground to back up the answer(no disrespect) . I'm a Viet-Nam vet 1966-1968, I'm Ranger qualified, I'm called on when the Medic needed help. In the years since, I've spent plenty of time increasing my knowledge of things Medical......it is by accident, that Pharmacology stood out. The infection in that mouth needs to be dealt with pronto. I think you'll have the time to clear up this mystery. I have a suspicion that the Codine could be the culprit.......think about it, which came first, an uncontrolable urge to scratch that unbearable itch.......or the rash that was a result of the scratching? It doesn't matter.....unless what I've said is true.......what I'd like you to do is this, stop taking both of those, for 48 hours, when that passes, start taking the Penicillian(I hope you can stand the discomfort) if it's the Pen-k that's causing it, it will start very fast, after the first day. STOP taking it. Call the Doctor. The anti-biotic is the important thing here, the fact is, that as you knock the infection down, the pain will subside. If there is no rash, or any other reaction, the Codine's the one. My thinking is that if you completely stop both, call the man for another appointment, wait for that, you're doing nothing in the interum, if you want to wait it out.......go for it. If you follow my suggestion.......you'll have all the answers in two(2) days. I'm sorry, those two(2) young girls who've answered already, want you to just assume that it's the Pen-k, without any proof.................that wouldn't work for me....GOOD LUCK..LATER

Jordy,
It absolutely sounds like you are having a reaction to your meds. You need to call the Doc. Doesn't matter if it's night, Doesn't matter if he is at dinner or in the bathtub. If you take another pill, you could end up not being able to breathe, or it could kill you. Chances are he will advise you to take benadryl for the rash, change the Tylenol #3 to something else, and maybe the PCN to Amoxil or something like that, but I wouldn't play with it at all. Call that doctor, and tell him what is going on. That is what he is there for. If he asks why you haven't called, just tell him you had to ask a nurse first :) Cheers! Get better~~~~~

This exact thing happened to me about a month ago after surgery while taking those exact two medications!!! I broke out in itchy red bumps on my chest and arms. I suspected it was the antibiotics and quit those first, and it worked. It took about 3 days for the rash to stop itching/spreading. I would report it to your dentist though. He can give you a different antibiotic.

I agree with the vetpainter!!! Discontinue both. You can have a reaction to either or both. Call the dentist so that they know and can prescribe you a different antibiotic and narcotic. DO NOT take these medications again until you see a DDS or MD because your next reaction could be fatal!!!!!
**If you read the directions that you recieve from the pharmacist it tells you to immediately go to the ER for any and all signs of allergic reaction!!**

There are more chances of you being allergic to Pennicillin and a lesser chance due to codine. Stop taking the meds and contact the MD. In the mean time, you can take liquid Benadryl (will work faster than tablets) for the rash. It will make you drowsy, but will help.

The itchy rash could be a yeast infestation - yeast grows great when antibiotics kill off all natural "enemies". I would follow doctors instruction with regard to the antibiotics however if you can do without the pain killer, you could consider stopping that.
For info about yeast infestations, and what might help, check out www.hufa.org - the yeast link.

Sounds like hives. Discontinue the medications and notify the dentist that you had an allergic reaction to either the penicillen or the codeine. More likely, its the penicillin. It could be dangerous to continue as the "allergy" could convert to anaphylaxis shock which is life threatening.

If you are experiencing hives, you should discontinue the meds and consult your dentist immediately. Hives are usually indicators of an allergy; allergy symptoms may show up immediately or within a few days of taking your meds.

Go to the hospital. You are probably having an allergic reaction to the antibiotics. The doctors at the hospital will probably prescribe something else for you.
