Could it be the same, the Deceiver? The one who deceived them in the Garden of Eden and the one who got the Egyptian and Sumerian civilizations to worship him as Deity? Isn't that what he always wants? To be "like god"?

The serpent represents life, because he sheds his skin. He tempts Eve, because she also represents life. Woman gives birth to man, and man pursues woman in his pursuit of life (reproduction). The lesson of the story is that life corrupts. All living beings must experience suffering and die.

The serpent moves mysteriously, elusively, and in a slippery fashion, and is a thing that has eyes that can "walk" the earth without legs.

Chew on that for a minute or two.

This is the form Satan took in the garden and is called a beast in the "true" account of deceiving Eve. He is a fallen beast and will eventually end up in a lake of fire forever. On your other questions...lots of God's creation have been used to depict diety however, there is no diety except God. These are deceived people and false religions who worship "dead" things.

Serpents are considered the most envious creatures. It is the one animal one is allowed to kill. What do you think of this verse Isaiah 1:11,15"TO what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? Saith the Lord: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts: and I delight no in the blood of bulls or cows, or of lambs, or of goats. When ye spread forth your hands, I will hide Mine eyes from you: Yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear, fro your hands are full of blood."

The "serpent" was a metaphorical description of Satan when he was in the garden.

Revelation 20:2 - "And he (Jesus) laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan..."
