Purple is one of my favorite colors, so the answer is NO.
There is always a way of doing things with taste. Remember purple can have a strong presence. That can also say something about you. The fact that you have the ability to step beyond the NORM can state your confidence or tackiness.
What is your theme or goal? What other components in the kitchen will work with purple. Do your cabinet have a bold and heavy texture? Are they a real dark color or will the wood tones work with purple? What is your lighting like; do you have a lot of windows, natural lighting, etc.? Be sure to put all your materials together: flooring, cabinets, countertops, furniture, textiles, pictures or do-dads and most of all in the presence of the lighting in that room. There are so many colors in purple, remember some pull way to the reds and others pull way to the blues. Some purples that have a lot of blue appear to be dead or faded. Accent lighting is always complementary to strong colors. Think your project thru thoroughly and go for it!

I think an eggplant shade would look really pretty. How about using it on only one wall though? Use cream or a barely there orange (orange and purple are opposites on the color wheel = complimentary) on the other walls. I painted clay pots in that combination before, it reminded me of eggplant and carrots (very kitcheny). Use some real or artificial green plants in your kitchen too, you'll have a really cozy vegetable patch feeling.

Italian grapes/vineyard as a subtle theme can bring purple into your kitchen. Paint the room a pale green, and accessorize with purple and black.

Have fun!

A dark purple would make the room look smaller. A bright purple could overpower. How about a light shade of violet with lots of white mixed in, or a light warm purple that is a little brownish. That would be livable but still unexpected enough to pop the room.

I have seen several kitchens painted shades of purple. It was dramatic and looked great. Just don't over accessorize. Benjamin Moore has great site where you can try different shades just to get some ideas.

if you use purple match it with a lighter shade of violet or lilac.down part should be darker and upper part should be lighter.if the kitchen is L, U shapes, you do 1/4 of the purple then lighter going up then a thin line of purple again on the end of the ceiling.if your kitchen is square.you can paint it monochromatic.

The only mistake you can make with paint is to play it safe and just stick with white. I think purple could be super cute if you plan carefully. Purple makes a strong statement, so neutral decorating materials like wood, stone and stainless steel would soften the entire look. TV shows like "Get Colour" and "Debbie Travis' Painted House" are filled with ideas and inspiration. If worse comes to worse, you can always paint over the purple. Good luck!

I would recommend a light shade of purple and use it for the border trim in the kitchen if you partner it with a light shade of turquious
it will visually pop .

its not too drastic depending on ones taste but remember that dark colors make rooms look significantly smaller so why not try a lilac or violet instead of just straight purple? also remember that colors look darker on a wall than they do when you look at them inside a can of paint

It depends what colour your eyes are. If the colour of your eyes compliments the purple, then I would say eyeshadow. However eyeliner can intensify your look and make the look less heavy if you don't wear eyeshadow. Or you could combine both! Just don't be too over the top. Make up can vary per individual person.
