yes the worms look like grains of rice when they are dried up. I just take a tissue every thirty minute sor so and wipe his butt hole. he's 8 months and never had his shot and his previous owner did not take care of him well. I took him to the vet to get his shots and they said he has to come back three times in a 3 week increment to have all his shot up to date.

Sometimes yes the owrms will come out, but often you won't see them. He will likely need to be dewormed again in 2 weeks.
The puppy series consists of 3 vaccinations for distemper/parvo...usually they are given at 8 weeks, 12 weeks & 16 weeks...in other words they are done 3-4 weeks apart and then boostered a year from the last vacciantion. A rabies vaccination is needed as well, but i recommend that you don't get it at the same time as the distemper/parvo. I recommend waiting at least 2 weeks between.

When you go in for your next checkup, bring some poop in a baggie with you so they can recheck it.
Do you know if he was dewormed specifically for tapeworms? They require a specific medicine that is different from what is used for other worms. He might have gotten a dewormer for roundworms and possibly for whipworms and hookworms, but that medicine will not kill tapeworms.
If he did get the tapeworm meds, then you should soon stop seeing evidence of worms. He must have had a pretty bad case if you have to wipe every 30 minutes or so! But good for you for adopting your new pet and taking proper care of him.
Best of luck to you!

Yes this is common when a dog is infested w/worms. You will definitly need to deworm this puppy in 3 to 4 works to make sure the deworming is complete. After the 2nd worming..take a stool sample to the vet to have it look over and make sure no further treatments are needed or that a particular worm that the dewormer your using now wont kill off. Your puppy really needs to be seen by a vet so he may receive his vaccinations and they will give you all the guidelines and answer your questions.

You are seeing tapeworms. OTC dewormers DO NOT kill tapeworms. You need to go to the vet and get Droncid (I think that is the spelling). There are a couple OTC dewormers for tapeworms however they are rarely completely effective and often make the dog very sick. Tapeworms do not always show up in a fecal exam. The vet will have to rely on your obsevations when it comes to this parasite.
BTW: Fleas are an important part of the lifecyle of tapeworms so keeping them under control is imperative to preventing reinfection later on in life.

Are the worms tiny and small? If they are, they are tapeworms. If they are long like spaghetti, they are roundworms. Sometimes the dogs will pass the dead roundworms, but the tapeworms are usually the ones you see around the butt and when they dry, they look like grains of rice.

yep. However is you still see worms coming out after 5 days I would ask for my money back. Also keep him away from the cats poop. Worms bore holes in the dogs or cats heart and that is not good. Take care of him. He will love you for it.
