That's a good question.
Because I'm sitting here reading this stuff wondering how kids could be so stupid in this "age of information." Where did common sense go?

Things changed for families when the moms went to work and left it up to a babysitter to raise their kids...sorry but it's true. They are so wrapped up in their jobs and then home to try and fulfill the family's needs that they really don't have time to make sure their kids get the attention and guidance they need...I know this is probably not going to go over well with the working moms...but lets face it...when there was a stay at home parent the kids had more guidance AND guidelines

I completely agree with you...My husband and I have 3 young daughters (all 6 and under) and I will be damned if our girls get to that age and just GO WILD!!!! We talk to them now about how important school is..and absolutely NO BOYFRIENDS!!!! It's crazy..our 6 year old has this little boy in her class who really likes her..when I say really I mean really..to the point where he wanted to buy her diamond earrings for Christmas and his mom thinks it's cute and his dad works a lot..so I am not sure how he feels... but it is ridiculous! We tell her that it is not okay to accet gifts from boys at this age..(unless it's a kris kringle thing and he picks your name)So we constantly tell our girls ..no boyfriends and that they are WAAAAAYYYYY to young for boyfriends and NO CHILDREN OR MARRIAGE until after they graduate from college... So it is like drilled in their heads...My husband tells them that they cannot date until they are 35..lol...unrealistic I know..but they don't know that yet..so they just say "yes daddy"...
It is really sad though...I see a lot of young girls working street corners and I am just like WTH is going on? Why can't they see that they are better than that...why can't they see that it is not the way out of whatever is troubling them? Sometimes we just need to step in and take over in place of their parents..a mentor (so to speak)..that's what my husband does with young boys (he volunteers at the YMCA) and coaches basketball....and I volunteer at a group home.... It's really sad some of their stories..It's saddening!!! Breaks my heart!
And yes...most of their parents are not there for them...either they work a lot..are selfish and think of themselves only....(they should not have had children) or they are there and they abuse their children in one form or another....
But, I would say this..to all those that are truely saddened by today's youth..... reach out! It takes a community (that's what my mom and grandma and aunts say)..It takes a community to raise a child! If they know someone some where cares for them.... it changes something inside of them..it gives them a sense of hope and belonging....!
I need my own column...... :)

Having sex on the couch beside the kids? Some parents have no clue how to raise children. They try to be their best friend instead of parent. There was a woman who asked if it was appropriate for her 13 year old daughter to date. Some people have no f'in clue how to raise children.

Their parents are working on their 2nd or 3rd marriages/divorces, or out on a date, or having more children with their 3rd and 4th spouses while building their careers. The women are getting plastic surgery and the men are buying a new SUV, and the kids are all on either ADD drugs or antidepressants while watching MTV.

how old are you? have you not been paying attention to society itself, most parents are working all day and really dont feel like talking about the childs life. and with that children talk to each other more and tone in with the media, sex drugs and lies are really popular with the youth

I agree. There's so much more to focus on than dating for all ages, but especially for them. Most of them probably haven't even had time to grow normal body parts yet.
