If God (whichever one you worship) commanded you to kill someone would you do it? I don't mean that his word was revealed to you in scripture, I mean you actually heard his booming voice and he commanded you to take another person's life, would you do it.
Now don't say he wouldn't do that, because he does it plenty of times in the bible and plenty of people followed his instruction.

Okay, time to chime in:
'chdoctor' and 'positive' I find it quite disturbing that you answered yes. Neither of you implied that you would first check to see that you weren't hallucinating. That's scary! I hope neither of you do psilocybin when you're near my house.
"Like a Rolling Stone" there are numerous passages in the Exodus in the OT where God commands the hebrews to slay pretty much everyone they come upon while roaming the desert.

I really thought I would get a lot fewer 'yes' responses. I'm glad that a sizeable chunk of you guys actually understand the question and have the brains to think that maybe it isn't god talking to you.
For all of you that said yes, think for a moment (I know you're not used to doing that); do you understand now why atheists tend to dislike the idea of religious belief? It turns regular people into homicidal freaks!

If I heard a booming voice commanding me to kill...I would assume I was schizophrenic, and have myself committed. I would not kill for a figment of my imagination.

I would first check with other people who know God, to try to ascertain whether what I was hearing was God's will or my own imagination. And I would allot a lot of time for prayer beforehand. Moreover, I would read God's Word to see if what I was hearing did not match up with the New Testament.
Would I act on impulse because I thought I had been given a message from God? No way.
My suspicion is that after taking the steps I just mentioned, it would become clear that I was imagining I heard God's voice. It is one of God's commandments that I should not murder. God doesn't ask people to break his commandments. That much is certain.
If you are going to object and complain, please note the distinction between killing and murdering. Killing done in self-defense, for example, is done with a true heart. Murdering someone you're jealous of is done with a bitter, murderous heart. It is all contingent on the heart of the one who is doing the slaying.
You may not like this distinction, and yet there it is.

Every war fought in the Bible was a war against the enemies of God and His people. God would never tell me or anyone else to murder anyone. The biggest and most horrendous war is yet to come, and that war also is against the enemies of God. If you are not for Him,you are against Him,and are therefore the enemy. Wars are what won America all it's freedoms, and God was always on our side during these wars, because we were once a God loving nation.God is always on the side of the good. But since America is turning its back on God,we may no longer have His Divine protection.God is a Just and Righteous God,as well as a loving and merciful God,but He will not let the world continue on its own path of destruction. It won't be long before He rids the world of all evil doings, and there will no longer be any war and suffering of any kind.
Believe what you will, but I will once again say that God would not command me or anyone else to murder someone, not for any reason. Man does the mudering, not God.

It happened only Once, but how would you know TODAY that it wasn't a demon/ Satan ?
I would want proof it was God, if He gave proof, I still would not do it. I would probably restate one of the Commandments- Thou shalt not Kill. God cannot lie, therefore His response would be very interesting.
In Moses' case, He wanted Moses' most precious/ only son sacrificed for Him on an altar. Moses murdered a man, but not by God's command.

No, I would not. For one thing I don't want to go to jail and in my lifetime I have seend too many people say they killed by the command of God.
As a Wiccan I live by the an if it harm none do as thou wilt. Killing harms some.

This question leaves out many important issues. Commanding you to kill a person who was raping you or hurting your family, or an innocent person walking down the street.
Life, is some ways, is a test. There are many ways that a person is tested according to his or her faith. God has other ways of testing an individual.

No, because God has no power over me. If He spoke to me at all, my first instinct would be to look for the hidden camera.
Ah, but you did specify whichever one I worshipped. In that case, I can honestly say that I would ask why I had to do this. If the reason did not seem logical to me, I would refuse.

Nope. Any god that tells you to kill is not worth worshipping in the first place.

No & the booming voice could kill me...just don't care to take another life. Now if it was a big, black, dog...I may have to take it into consideration. ;)

God's voice wouldn't have to be "booming" for me to obey his command...it would merely have to be a quiet whisper for me to do his bidding if I was convinced that it was his voice and not someone elses.
I suppose this is the answer you were looking for, eh?
Peace
