Why do many hotels have the word "arms" in their name?

For example, say, "The Cheshire Arms Hotel".

I thought it might have something to do with the hotel having a coat of arms as its logo, as I know several of them do that have the word "arms" in their name.

I think it is meant to welcome you; or to make you feel welcome! To cradle you comfort you...make you want to stay there...! Maybe....
