if you want side bangs, then hold them in the place you want them and cut them at an angle. cut them longer than you would want them. you can always cut more.

If you already have bangs and just want to shorten them, comb them straight down, push them against your forehead with one hand and cut them straight across with hair scissors, not regular ones. However the length depends on you. I cut mine level with the top of my eyebrows but I have fairly short hair. I will only do this once between cuts otherwise the hairstyle will get out of balance. If you want anything fancier, like feathering etc., I'd advise going to a hairdresser. I'm sure they wouldn't charge more than $5 for cutting bangs. (Not $40 like someone suggested, though maybe they would at a high priced salon.)
You can buy 'hair scissors' or 'grooming scissors' or 'barber scissors' relatively inexpensively, maybe even at Walmart.

If you haven't used bangs for a along time you don't want to do that on your own.what if you cut them too short or not straight? for the first time I recommend you try a hair saloon and after that if you feel comfortable enough do it on your own. It will probably cost about five dollars just for that but pricing cost depends where you live or where you go.

if you are really going to do it yourself.... it will be hard to explain but i will try.... pull your hair in front of your face. like cousin it on adams family... take a comb and comb out a half inch square back on the very direct front of your forehead, and take it over in each direction nor more than about an inch. comb the rest of the hair away and leave just this section hanging str8 in the front... its kinda hard to do since you have to do it all looking through your hair... and then cut it to the length desired. and walla!... those are for the straight bangs in front ....now if your wanting the side swoop bangs, part your hair to one side, and cut diagnolly down a small section of your hair on whichever side desired. and there ya go! If this was confusing just try googling it.

DON'T DO IT!!!! You WILL mess up...it is inevitable. Go to a salon and have it professionally done; or just have someone with a steady hand and good eyes to do it for you, but don't do it yourself!

I do it very slowly, with a lot of attention to detail. You can't mess up or they will end up too short.
