Satan and Lucifer are a stand alone entity, they are in fact the same ghost, God is another, there is a balance of powers, having God a little more power over Satan, but Satan was a good entity until turned to the dark side, it's just like Darth Vader, and Obi Wan Canobi..☺

OK, OK, enough bad answers.
Todaywiserthanyesterday’s answer was close, but she sounds like a Catholic preist, close, but wrong.
She says :
""This refers to his dignity as an angel, and he is still able to appear as "an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14).""
WRONG - AND misleading, IF you have a correct understanding you know this translation she uses to be false, and misleading, unfortuantely it's all some have and don't question it or their poor Bible translation.
The verse ACTUALLY SAYS AND MEANS ::
2 Corinthians 11:14 (New International Version)
And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
Masquerades - he is evil and opposes God.
Satan and Lucifer ARE NOT THE SAME thing !
Lucifer was an angel, but turned Dark. He is minimal, and ONCE referred to as "son of the morning" see Isaiah 14:12.
Satan is God's true adversary, powerful, cunning, yet VERY proud and overconfident. NOTHING in comparison to God, the same compared with Jesus, powerless over those who know God's word. he IS some people's friend- he wants us to follow money, possessions, etc. not God, MOST people do this today !
And Definitely NOT like Darth Vader. He doesn't wear a funny costume or make silly robotic sounds either.
Hope that helps you

Satan was created by God as the highest of angels, but he chose to betray God and fell (became a demon). (See details in the first link.) This word, satan, actually means adversary, as he is the enemy of God and and human beings. The other name, lucifer, means the morning star, or bearer of light. This refers to his dignity as an angel, and he is still able to appear as "an angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14).

The two are different. One of those characters originates from the bible, Satan. A character, used by cult tactics to control the followers.
Lucifer however, was the benevolent Norse god of light. When the Christians were murdering across the country-side, they often used their own perverse imaginations to make the gods look bad.
The confusion between the two was purposeful to falsely associate Satan with gods.

Satan was created by God, yes. Evil, no. God created angelic creatures. Satan became who "he" is today by rebelling. I heard growing up by my mother telling me this: "Satan was the most beautiful angel created and it was in vain that made him rebel. He was named Lucifer as a way to mock him because the name means 'shining one' (or something similar to it)"

'SATAN'was not created by GOD.He was jealous of GOD.He and his followers, there were legions, were banished from heaven for their transgressions.Never to return.Satans'sin,or crime, was wanting to take over and rule Heaven. He thought,I guess, that he could do a better job.
