Ok. First, your question will depend on what state you live in. I was allowed to go on a vacation to VT from CA with my probation officers permission. But overseas may be very different.
You may not even be given a probation officer. But if you're back before they realize it, whats the harm? They won't be watching for you at the Airport or anything,

"Probation" is a period of time during which they are making sure that you can follow the rules and laws... it's is after all it is your second chance and is keeping you from being locked up so they just want to be able to keep a close eye on you and make sure you are staying out of trouble.
Most of the time they assign a "probation officer" to your case who you have to check in with every so often. They check up on you and make sure you are paying your fines, and statying out of trouble, they using do a drug screen and ask about your job.
As far as Vacations they normally have rules set as to where you can and cant go (for example i cannot go out of state of more than 100 miles from my house without permission) Normally if you have a vacation or something planned then you will need to ask them for permisson before you leave becuase if they realize you went some where without telling them (even if you come back before they know that you were gone) they can still violate you and revoke you probation and lock you up.
As far as traviling over seas that woud be up to your officer. Definaltly get permission from them before you go otherwise you will be in more troble. Good Luck!

Probation allows the inmate to freely roam around in the community but must not violate any rules or commit crimes.

You are on probatoin, to be watched so that they can be sure you are not going to be committing other crimes.
It is completely up to your probation officer , you have to ask them if it is ok to travel
