Yes, they are among the so many messengers of God through Jesus Christ. They are the true preachers of God's message of salvation. However,
In Romans 10:14-15, Apostle Paul emphatically declares that not just anybody can preach the true gospel. Unless one is sent, he can not preach, Paul pointed out. This is what he says: “How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’” (Ibid.) It is clear from these statements that only preachers who are sent have the authority to preach the gospel or the good news. The true preachers are the ones sent by God; they are His messengers.
How do we know whether a preacher is sent by God or not? Two of the most important things that distinguish a messenger of God from the self-proclaimed preachers are the teachings they teach and the testimony of Scriptural prophecies confirming that they are indeed chosen and sent to preach God’s words. Thus says the prophet Isaiah: “To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them” (Isa. 8:20. NKJV).
Where can we find the testimony that confirms that a preacher is indeed chosen and sent by God to preach His words? Christ, the greatest messenger of God, told those who challenged His authority to “search the Scriptures,… these are they which testify of Me” (John 5:39, Ibid.). In fact there are many prophecies in the Holy Scriptures attesting that Christ was sent by God. In like manner, the Apostles cited the prophecies of the Bible confirming their commission as God’s messengers. Apostle Paul quoted the prophecy of Isaiah: “For so the Lord has commanded us: ‘I have set you as a light to the Gentiles, That you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth’” (Acts 13:47, Ibid). Apostle Peter said: “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts” (II Pet. 1:19 King James Version). All these tell us that the authority of a preacher to preach the words of God should be backed up by the Scriptural prophecies testifying that he is sent by God. Without the testimony of prophecy, he cannot properly be called a true preacher.

besides them, there were also individual Christians who spread the word of their experience of Jesus to their friends and family. And then those people would spread the word to others, and so on.
