They just hold on to everything! There are newspapers from months past, soda bottles, shoes, clothes, boxes, anything you can imagine just exploding from each room in the house! I have already tried cleaning their house myself, but I don't get anywhere. I do the dishes, clean the counters, etc. but they are just recluttered within a week! What are some ways I can help them or get some serious intervention for de-cluttering their home ?

Buy them some storage containers, big ones to throw things in. That won't make it perfect, but at least maybe it will be a little more organized and you will be able to walk without tripping over things. You know, one for newspapers, one for shoes....

Honey maybe you could talk them into having a sale, if there is anything that is not being used and make some money and clean out some of the clutter at the same time. You could also try to convince them to pack some of the things away and put it in the attic out of the way,if they won't have a sale. I am glad that you are concerned about their safety. You are a good daughter. I know it is hard to convince older people to part with things . They seem to be pack rats at times , but maybe they were brought up in hard times, and can't get out of the habit of saving everything. God Bless you . I hope you can work something out with them.

i so hear you girl...no place to walk, sit, eat the kitchen is gross, I will not eat there...i cook so they can eat healthy, but i got to clean about two weeks worht before i can do anything,i know what you are saying...believe me i do...my moms car looks like a garbage dump. The house has clothes up tp the knees, all over. I have cleaned and cleand...but oh so tired now. One day i went through the clothes and threw out 80 % of it...i was hated for weeks, Then i went back and somehow the stuff that was saved...was all over...not much you can do. I have been with my Fiance for 6 years...he been there 3 times...everytime i asked them to clean when we come over...but i guess it never phases them to look after themselves...other than the mess..it's the smell...i hate it...sso i just stopped going around. Stay away...if they ask..tell them...because the house is nasty.

tell them you want to spend the weekend with them and help them clean out some stuff. tell them to get rid of anything now used in 10 years, if not enough, then 5 years and so on. they will like spending time with you if you help them yourself. tell them your concerns.

Hire a maid. They will probably be so embarrassed when she comes over that they start picking up after themselves.
