No one knows. There is some suggestion of an infectious cause, but if there is, the mode of transmission is undetermined.

No, not really. Here's the thing, the previous poster is right, no one is sure if it's caused by a virus, but it may well be. There's just no good evidence for it. That being said, it's NOT a direct effect of the virus, it's the body's immune system getting keyed up by a virus. Imagine getting something like a common cold virus, and your immune system goes haywire and attacking blood vessels that aren't even infected with the virus.
Chances are if you find a kid with Kawasaki's, every other kid in his family has been exposed to the same virus he had (if, that is, there really IS a virus that causes the disease), but the other kids are fine-- no one knows why one person's immune system goes nuts while the other kids' feel fine. That's why Kawasaki's doesn't directly spread from person to person.

The exact cause is unknown, but it is most probably not contagious.
