simple leave him a tray of catfood and water out and he most likely wont bother you. Cats are primarily active at night thats probably why he is waking you up wanting food. If he still comes in and wakes you up then its time to kick him out and shut the door every night so he cant come in and wake you.

Pretend to sleep, no matter what your cat does. This might require hiding most of your body under the covers, so the cat can't gently "prick" you with its claws to wake you up. It will take about a week (maybe more, depending on how long this has been going on) for your cat to get the message that you're not getting up in the middle of the night, no matter what.

Leaving some food and water out is also a good idea, but the cat's probably not waking you up for food as much as it is waking you up for company.

Cats are naturally nibblers. I always keep food in the bowl for any indoor cats I have. Of course it has to be dry food. Doesn't want to eat it and still wakes you up? Do not get up. The cat has you well trained & you need to let the cat know it is not the boss while you are sleeping. After all, you both know its boss the rest of the day.

And if nothing else works, close the bedroom door at night with the cat on the other side. Either someone else in the house will take over your job, or the cat will learn you are the boss at night, DARNIT!

I leave food in the bowl all the time but I know sometimes people don't want to do this because the cat is too fat and they want to control the amount of food it eats.

So if you don't want to leave enough food in the bowl all the time, I would suggest switching to filling the bowl once a day, at night. That way it has food throughout the night and eventually it will also learn that you do not fill the bowl when you get up in the morning anyway, so there is no point in waking you up. This worked for my ex-boyfriend's obese cat who used to wake him up very early in the morning to be fed.

i have the same problem, my cat eats non stop and if his dish is ever empty he freaks out and paws his dish and then finds the bag of food and paws at that and has even chewed a whole through the bag. Trust me my cat is not hungry so i really dont know what to tell you. I guess just try and make sure your cats dish is full before you go to bed. Best of luck.

I leave dry food and water out all the time. Cats like to have a routine, so I feed them wet food in the late afternoon.

,Just before bed put out lot's of food, wet especially in a dish. Get him very full just before your bedtime---very full, and if he doesn't finish all just leave it out.

If he still wakes you up just put the sheet over your head or close your door to your bedroom at night. He will get the message.

Sometimes we don't want to be a little mean as to hurt our cats disposition, but really they can learn quite quickly if we are stern and they won't blink an eyelid.

Take heed,

Try feeding your cat meals. I feed my cats twice daily. 11pm, and 11am. Feeding them one meal just before I go to bed keeps them from waking me up. They've become accustom to the times. If it's 11:30, and there's no food in their bowl yet, they are sure to let me know. This also helps to prevent them from overeating. I can't imagine how much they would weigh if I gave them "free choice" feeding.

Squirt does that to me almost every night. She wants food or she wants to play. She is a growing kitten and usually I just pull the sheet up over my head. She licks my face and it tickles
