I think it is sort of odd, hard to figure out the pronunciation, and kids like their friends to be able to spell and say their names......their teachers too. As a former teacher, I don't like "unique" names. I say, let the kid be unique and keep the name normal.

I would give your daughter the option of using part of her name or her middle name.....Key or Li or Kay? My stepdaughter's name is Katia, it is constantly misspelled and mispronounced -- Cat-e-uh, Katie-uh, Cot-e-uh......UGH! For a while I suggested she go by Kat or Tia. She tried to go by Kay, or KK, but neither stuck.

My kids have traditional names as a result. But THEY are unique.

Try to comfort your daughter and just make her in charge of finding something she can feel good about.

No offense, but it almost is good for nothing. But hey, I have a weird name, Khrys. They say it's a unique name. So is Keyliy Kari Sanchez. Don't be so hard yourself because your daughter says it's good for nothing.

What a beautiful name you gave your daughter. My daughter also has an unusual name. I am not sure where your daughters name comes from, but I would research both of her names, and show her the results, maybe if she realizes what her name means it may help her enjoy the uniqueness that it brings.

Kids want very much to fit in and the unusual way her name is spelled might be causing her embarrassment.

Does she like her middle name? Change her first name to a nickname?

My brother's name is Ladd. He hated going to school because of it. As soon as he turned 18 he had it legally changed to John.

Is that pronounced Kay-Lee? I will never understand why parents do something like that to their child. My mom gave me a name she made up, and kids made fun of me my whole life until I changed it to Jessie. I'm sorry if I have offended you, but I was a victim of being teased about a messed up name. I can see where your little girl is coming from.

that's a pretty name, u should read all the good stuff people write on here about her name, she should feel better. My name is maricela and it was so hard for a lot of people to pronounce i hated it so many people butchered my name, then when my cousin had her second daughter, she named her after me cause she said she loved my name it makes me feel a lot better. all those girls are just jealous.

Boost her self esteem and tell her that her name has meaning and you gave her a unique name for a reason. Those other kids just have to pick on someone. Maybe you could get a t-shirt embroidered with her name on it so she can be proud.

They are just jealous because they don't have a unique name like that. People should be proud of the name that they are given especially if it is unique. It says something about them and the person that gave it to them. She should not listen to them. If they are her true friends they will not concentrate on her name and concentrate on who she is.

Sadly, that is what happens when parents decide on unusual names. Kids can be cruel and at this point she has to deal with it or start going by perhaps her middle name. That's what happend to my husband as a child so by middle school, he started using his middle name.
