Anybody have any tips, easy recipes or diet ideas to help me loose weight sensibly? I am 44 years old and about 60 lbs overweight. I have a history of diabetes and heart disease in my family. My family likes to eat out at restaurants a lot so I am open for all sorts of advise. Thanks for your serious answers.

The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to adopt an overall healthy lifestyle. In other words, eat healthy (low fat, low sodium, low sugar) food and exercise regularly.

Both my parents have Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular problems, but I chose not to follow that pattern.

You should check with your doctor to see if you're showing any pre-diabetic conditions, if so, you'll want to make sure you're eating every 3 hours to avoid diabetes in the future.

If you're going out to eat a lot, make sure it is at a restaurant that has healthy options. Order soup and salad, an appetizer, or anything with a reasonable portion size. Just don't order fried foods.

Most professional weight loss centers recomment not losing more than 2 lbs per week because you're more likely to keep the weight off if you take your time. You should stay away from fad diets and focus on healthy choices all day every day.

Good luck with your weight loss!

You might think about trying this book called "The Movie Star Diet" by Steve Simmons. It helped me lose thirty pounds in 2 1/2 months when I didn't think anything would work. My goal to begin with was only 20 lbs! It has a really easy plan to follow and an excellent workout as well.

I have a couple a friends that have highly successful diets.
The first one is called Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle http://mshuebrook.burnthefat.hop.clickbank.net

The second one is called Turbelance Training http://mshuebrook.turbulence.hop.clickbank.netThere are two books that I reccomend to anyone who is interested in weight loss.

The first book is a more detailed approach. The author of the book as sold more copies of it than any other fitness book out there.

The second book is from the writer of Mens Health and many other national magazines.

Both books are of great value.

I am about your age and we like to eat out a lot so I will tell you what i do. First i eat a big breakfast with fibre- cereal with 2% milk. This gives me the energy to get through the morning with out feeling tired or hungry. At lunch if we go out I order something vegetarian - so if its chinese its easy - pizza it's cheese with veggies, pasta - it's whole wheat with tomatoe sauce. I don't eat white carbs or fat at lunch. If we go home (my husband and I work at the same place) I usually either have eggs or a lean cuisine. At dinner - I don't eat red meat AT ALL it's either chicken, fish, lentils or tofu with veg. the tofu you can buy really simulates ground beef and I use it in all casseroles, spaghetti sauces, chili etc. People say "yuck" when i tell them but i've brought it to potlucks and people haven't even noticed that it''s not meat. However if you are a red meat lover I would suggest that you only have it once in awhile and that you stick to lean cuts and never eat hamburger! it's the worst! On fridays we always either go out or order in and have some beer or wine and I don't deprive myself AT all! I REALLY THINK THAT IS KEY - IF YOU FEEL YOU DEPRIVED YOU WILL NOT SUCCEED. I go to the gym about 4 times a week but I don't go crazy - just 30 minutes in cardio and weights 3X a week. I seriously don't do too much! I I walk to work in the spring and fall (NOT in winter) It's nice because I put my earphones on and listen to the oldies! I don't work summers since I teach but I keep busy! I hope this helps - I maintain a pretty healthy weight sticking to this type of life-plan.
I really hope this helps and feel free to email me if you need more help! good luck!!! nancieeriksam@yahoo.ca

Try cutting down on grains. Bread, pasta, rice, that kind of thing... and only drink unsweetened tea and water. You would be amazed at how many calories are in juice and soda. I lost 3 lbs in a week just from drinking water.
