There's different types of deserts. Antartica can be considered a desert because it gets so little rain, same with the mountains. Perhaps it was next to a lake in the mountains and the water would take it out where it can maneuver to an upright position.

Because you have noticed that the shell would make a good water carrier and if you leave the turtle there it will cook in the heat and then you will have a ready meal ......... waste not want not

There's an elephant standing on my foot and it won't move.
I'm busy helping the groundhog out of a tree.
It is one of those "Desert Upside-down Snapping turtles". You can spot them by their flailing.
I'm in quicksand (I sure could use that elephant now).

because upon closer examination of the situation ,you realise that it's because the penguin next to the turtle, has just told him the cowboy and the lesbian joke,you know this, because you can hear the turtle continually muttering,lesbian, lesbian
