How does some one go about getting their photographs copyrighted so they can sell them?

In the United States they are automatically copyright. Registering them gives you further legal advantages in protecting that copyright. If you are printing them out and selling prints a copyright notice on the print is usually sufficient. You don't have to formally copyright your work to sell it.
