When you purchased your DVD burner (or if it came with the computer) you should have gotten a copy of a burner software like Nero Burn or Roxio Media Creator. Both have a DVD creation program included. It takes AVI (or most other video format) files and converts them to the proper format for DVDs (.vob) as burn of burning the files to the DVD. Check your computer for such a burner program.

If you can not find one, do a Google search for "DVD burner software". There are several free ones available for download.

If It is an Xvid .Avi file, you need to convert that to Divx before TMPGEnc will recognize it. Use a program called 'VirtualDub' it is Free to download. You need the divx codec installed on your PC to convert the file.

What you really need to do is just burn the avi to a DVD, not convert it.
