be dormered or I think they call it a dog house added? The upstairs is NOT dormered now. I don't have the money to dormer the entire upstairs, I just want to add a bathroom with shower stall, sink & toilet. Any idea on costs? I live in Long Island, NY.

Thanks!

If you can put it as close as possible above your downstairs bathroom it will save you $$ on plumbing and piping.

yes u would need to add a dormer to the attic of this house since most tubs and shower stall are around 5 to 5 foot six inches in height unless u are of short stature and are able to make do with out a shower and just use a tub u could just use artificial light.ie light bulbs there are different style of dormers that u could use pertaining to how big u would like to make this bathroom but as all cost money it is up to u on what u would like to do. friend from canada

Again...Go to your local building codes office. They can put you in contact with reliable contractors. On this type of structure (at least our area) you going to need a set of plans, the builder will have to have an idea of all the materials and your going to have to get a bank loan for this one.
I don't want to scare you but it's going to cost bucks. Why isn't the bath downstairs good enough?
It may be cheaper to purchase a new home with this in it, think about it.

i am a contractor on long island. the price of adding a bathroom depends on what kind of fixtures you want to go with. if you are looking to go an inexpensive way, then you may be able to do the job for about $7000- $10,000. if you don't have to dormer.

Putting in another bath on the ground floor would be bad enough but on the second floor...i hope you have a fat checking account
