You may have a condition called Celiac Disease (CD). This is an allergy to the proteins in wheat, rye and barley (which ared called glutens/gliadins). This condition causes malabsorption of nutrients and often results in weight loss or inability to gain weight. It is very common. Researchers believe one person in every one hundred has it, but sadly, it is only diagnosed in one in 3500 (3% of the people who have it) in the U.S.

Treatment consists of avoiding all sources of gluten/gliadin in your diet. There is no 'drug treatment' which is probably the reason most M.D.s know so little about this common and serious condition. Every major gastroenterology medical journal has had review articles on this condition in the last 2 years, but sadly, most doctors never read their own journals. The medical journal "Gastroenterology" published an entire issue on this subject in 2005 - I believe it was the April "supplement". It is available on the web.

See you doctor and insist on getting tested. Your doctor may not know much about this very common condition, so you may have to be very insistent and even demand a referral to a doctor that specializes in CD.

I have had this condition for over 50 years and had to figure it out for myself (with the help of a great Naturopathic Physician). Like you, when I was a teenager I couldn't gain weight and I suffered from all kinds of chronic health issues.

Best wishes and good luck.

Hey, it really should be nothing to worry about. I know a lady that is 47 years old with two kids and about your height and she only weighs 93 pounds. If you don't have a major health problem it should be ok. You just have a very high metabolism. You might be sick all the time because of stress because you worry about your weight so much. Just try not to worry and see how you feel.

Hroof? Most people have trouble losing weight. I used to have a girlfriend with the same problem, and she had some weird metabolic problem. Assuming you have already tried the obvious like cheesecake, prime rib and laziness, you may want to ask a doctor to be sure there is nothing medically wrong with you. There is a whole list of various things that can do this at this site http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/sym/weight_loss.htm but I think they only list the obvious ones.

I really don't know except to tell you to see a doctor. Also I had a doctor tell me once that I could gain weight if I would start drinking those milkshake things for people who want to loose weight but I should drink it WITH my meals. But anyway you should see a doctor. I will pray for you also.
One thing too is that at your age all girls think they look horrible. You are probably not so hideous as you seem to think.
Be Blessed in Jesus Name.

I would go to your md and get some blood work and tests done. Some other things to look at is lifestyle. Smoke? Active? Some people also burn more calories than consumed. If so try adding a protien drink or bar with meals and don't just pig out and do nothing to gain weight.Nutrion shakes are excellent for vitamins your body needs.

See a dr! Could be a metabolic disorder (how your body uses energy), which can be caused by thyroid, renal, or pituitary gland dysfunction. Could also be a digestive disorder (do you have frequent diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, etc.). Even some cancers and autoimmune disorders (lupus, rhuematiod arthritis) can cause radical weight loss (called "wasting")...
In any case, you need to see a doctor about this.

Are you active and excersise? If you want to gain weight don't excersise as much so your metablosim slows down. If your metabolism doesnt slow down then it might be genetic of how fast your metabolism is. I had to gain weight back once from being sick. So what I did is i didn't excersise and I drank LOTS of soda. Especially coke.

It may be that you have some kind of dietary problem like coeliac or even diabetes. Go and get some blood tests done. In the meantime, cut out wheat and dairy and eat things like rice and potatoes instead.
