Everyone thinks their own duck is a swan.

LOL - oh good, I'm not alone.

My thing is that I find mine are in the minority when it comes to having to say thank you or please or that have any idea of general manners and courtesies.

It's not that I expect that children should be seen and not heard, but it irritates me that some parents seem to be on 24 hour call for their kids!!!

I see it all too often that the kids call out for the parents to 'bring them this' and 'bring them that' or 'I'm hungry' or 'I'm thirsty' and the parents jump up and do it all!!!! And on top of this I never hear a please or thank you??

NOT IN MY HOUSE, lol. I'm not a slave to my own kids and I certainly won't be to anybody elses.

I will prompt children who visit my house to say thank you or please or excuse me. I will tell them they are old enough to get a glass and they know where the water filter is.

My 8 year old son has a friend who has stayed over who just won't eat anything!! In the end I told him to look through the cupboard and fridge and see if he could find something he liked! In the end he did settle on a sandwich but was bemoaning the fact that he only ate white bread and we only had multigrain. I knew he ate pizza so we were even going to have a treat and have a home delivery last time he was here until I learnt he ONLY ate cheese pizza!!

But in saying all that, there are other kids that I do like and even love, but they are the ones whose parents are happy to have their kids treated the same as mine when they are in my house. In fact the parents usually like visiting my place because their children do what I ask them to do, and often comment "they never do that for me at home".

When it comes down to it I think it's the lack of respect the irks me!

By the way I loved the reply about every parent thinking their ducks are swans!! Lol :-)

No, for the longest time I thought there was something wrong with me since I didn't have to hold the "new baby". Or think that "Jeffery's" every new word was cute. Then I realized, I just am not a little people person. Teenagers are OK, I can relate to them, most of the time. Sometimes they just weird me out....

But all in all I find that parents are to blame. They don't teach manners, or etiquette to their children, and that is what I found most annoying.

When my kids became teenagers, I started liking other people's teenagers better than my own. I had great conversations with other people's teenagers, whereas my own had decided that I had become a worthless, embarassing nag to be ignored whenever possible. Fortunately, as they grow into adulthood, they are beginning to discover that mom might know a thing or two after all. So give it time. Someday, other people's kids may look good for you.

I can't stand going into a restaurant and then hearing kids scream and run around.Ugh!

Hell No!!!! You are not the only one!

Before I had my own children, I was like one of those evil people that would make an ugly face at a child, if I caught them staring at me for too long. So of course when I had my own.........I had to learn to like even them.

So, with that said.......I love my own and still don't like other people's children. Heck, even my own make me sick sometimes.

HA!

It's normal. Some people are gifted to like all children; many of us, either admittedly or secretly, can't stand any kids but our own.

I don't have any children yet, but hope to soon. However I am like you in that I don't like anyone else's children except my nieces and nephew. But this is only school aged children, I love babies!

No you are not alone. There are probably many people that like their own kids but can not stand yours.

Probably not. I don't seem to "click" with anyone's children but my own son. I just don't feel comfortable with other people's children and they tend to get on my nerves.
