What you are asking is not possible. Windows XP Pro. or Windows XP Home, is not a free upgrade. You have to purchase the program.
All of Microsoft platforms, prior to Windows XP platforms are no longer supported by Microsoft. You are unable to get any updates or downloads. Plus no support.
You will have to purchase a valid Windows XP Pro.
My suggestion is that you purchase a very small item from an "OEM"., and they will sell you Windows XP Pro., for about $100.00 or even less.
If you do purchase a new platform, please make sure that the technican where you purchase, installs the platform while you watch. You want to see him/her download SP2, Netframework 2, Windows Media Player, an all of the critical updates.
The reason is that Microsoft "WGA", tool, that validates your key on the side of the box with the disk, will perform a validation atleast four times with each download.
You will always find a sales person who works in a computer store that will open the package and remove the CD. Then they will run it in their own pc, or a family member or for a friend. Then they use equipment that they have to reinstall the plastic back over the package.. Looks like it has never been opened.
You don't want to be a victim of this. So insist that they install while you watch plus the updates required. This way you will know that you key is valid before you leave and find out at home that Microsoft says you key is not valid.

You can do a install that upgrades from ME to XP. I HIGHLY do not recommend this approach. This is whats called a Dirty install. It can cause many problems in the long run. It can be done from a upgrade or a full disk. I also NEVER recommend anyone to get a upgrade disk. If you have to re-install again later, you have to put ME on and then upgrade it to XP in order to use the upgrade disk.

well windows me and xp do not work good together so you have to reformat your computer and where you would have put your windows me disk in put in the xp windows disk instead and it should load xp Windows on your computer.
P.S. I have also heard that if you have the original Windows ME install disk that came with your computer you call call Microsoft and they will send you the XP windows in exchange for the ME windows that is what I have heard do not know if it is true or not might call them and check it out for yourself.

It would be cheaper and you would upgrade greatly by just going out and buying a new PC... You can get an HP or Compact with a 3400+ speed AMD and 100+ gig hard drive with XP pre installed for about $250...

I don't think you can download XP.
Your best bet is to get (PAY FOR) a Windows XP installation CD and start from scratch.
The O/S upgrades have NEVER worked very well.
CAUTION... Backup your documents / files/ programs first!

First you go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/upgrading/advisor.mspx and make sure your computer is suitable for an upgrade to XP. If it is, insert the XP CD and follow screen directions.

I wouldn't do the upgrade install from `ME` to `XP`, you would be far better to save your files, and do a fresh install, of course hardware permitting.
