In the end, Yes. Before they loose there motor coordination, they loose all that make them who they are/were. eventually they loose everything, they eventually become a blank page with nothing on it.
The soul makes a person who they are. Without it they are just book with no writing in it.

I remember watching a documentary on Alzheimer's and coming away sad to the bone with the realization that, if your consciousness is your soul, then Alzheimer's is a disease of the soul. It slowly destroys everything about you, your memories, your feelings, everything. Personally I'd rather have cancer then ever be alive and not even know who my own child is.

No, the soul never dies, it lives on , no matter what the flesh does.
They just don't remember the short term things.
The long term memory is what they lose.
That diease is a terrible thing for some.
Others it is not so bad, they lose the ugly side of themselves
They are the same person deep inside
If they had been born again, they will go to heaven'
If not ask them to repent and ask Jesus to come in
They probably will
they are like children

Alzheimers is like a foot in the grave people often die gradually and this is a step in that direction ...when one can't recognize thier own children something is missing the soul is a debatable
concept however...medicine and religion are two different areas

No No one looses their soul the soul is eternal that is you the body and mind are temporary We are not these bodies or minds. It has nothing to do with the soul. The only thing we have to remember at the time of Death is God also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah etc. Or His representative Christ, Mohamed, Moses, Srila Prabhupada, St.Francis etc. This life is not important only they spiritual advancement we made is. No, NOBODY loses their soul - Alzheimers' patients just lose their cognition, core memories and reflexes, along with speech and independent living skills.
They still have some spark in their eyes if you trigger a familiar memory, if only for a fleeting moment.

They don't actually lose it. That is looking at it upside down.
They are not the body, They are the soul.
They just leave the body but it doesn't die for a while.
It's a lot like a house that no one lives in anymore.
Love and blessings Don

Alzheimer's is a disease that causes holes in the brain. Our soul is a part of us that defines our personality. Our spirit is safe with God if we are saved and is not lost due to a brain deteriorating disease.

Alzheimer's is a chronic degenerative disease of the mind, not your soul or the person you were.
