As another user pointed out, AVG 7.1 is free and is end of life in January 2007.
But...
7.5 is out and free for use just like 7.1 was. Updates include Vista compatability and styling. Smaller and faster updates. I have been using for a few weeks now and am very impressed. Have used AVG for about 6 years now and I will never go to another product while AVG is still free.

Not asking for much are you? Any antivirus is going to slow your computer at least a little bit. would try their trail versions and decide which is best for you. Most 30 day trials are free.

Okay, now I know a lot of people are saying "AVG this AVG that!" My experiences with AVG are not so great. By FAR the best anti virus (free or not free) is Avast! It's free and it's got every feature you can dream of.
You can find more info at
- http://avast.com and
- http://avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
If you're interested, here's a direct link to download
- http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/setupeng.exe
And to register (you have to get a product key to use it for more than 30 days...IT'S FREE)
Hope it helps :)

AVG is excellent. and so is Clamwin via Microsoft. i take advantage of the two on my laptop - it does reason severe CPU utilization and dealing slower at cases, regardless of if this is excellent application with on a regular basis uupdates of the maximum up-to-date and proper risk-free practices.
