It is usually real bread like rye made without preservatives. Commercial white bread will last the longest because it is packed with enough preservatives to kill mold for weeks.

Depends on the brand and what they put in it as preservatives. I had a piece of white bread in a sandwich bag at work, and that thing sat there for months without turning green (after it had sat there a few days with no mold, I kept it to see what would happen).

I thought that was pretty scary. What did they put into that bread to make it not get moldy? Do I really want to eat whatever chemical that was? At the same time, I've had other white breads mold in a day or two if left unrefrigerated.

your not going to get mold in that amount of time. the best bet is to go to grocery stores and ask if they have old bread. Or better yet look in the dumpsters outside bakeries. the fastest growing bread would be organic wheat bread. Since it contains the outer hull of the wheat bran it means it also contains mold spores. So you could grow mold faster. but it won't happen over night. I'd suggest changing your project.

white becuase theres more space between the bread molecules so there is more chance for moisture to get captured in the holes and turn into mold..

haha, yeah i totally just made that up, but it seems somewhat logical..
