There are no wolves in Australia.

Unless you want to refer to dingos as being wolves, in which case, they are hunted because they kill sheeps, up to 50 in a day, far more than they need to eat.
Dingo are most likely the descendent of dogs the human settlers of Australia (the arborigenes) brought with them thousands of years ago, and that became feral.

Maybe because of over population? Not enough food sources? I don't know either but I'm sure someone will.
