I am personally an American that converted to Judaism, although I am certianly a minority in the Jewish community. Most Jews even today can trace their maternal lineage to the 12 tribes.

EDIT: Most can be traced to descendents of Moses and Joshua, I should rephrase. After the dispersment of the Israelites by the Assyrians who conqured Israel (composed then of 10 northern tribes) and Judah (the largest tribe, of which Judaism is named after), it is difficult to trace lineage back to a specific tribe, but most Jews are descendantss of the tribes.

Most Jews today are descendants of the twelve tribes of Israel according to DNA studies on Europen and American Jews that show DNA that goes back to the Middle East.

They likely are of Jewish ancestry but isn't there another way of becoming a Jew?

One of their own says something about a believer in God being a Jew on the inside. Wouldn't that be good news for those of other ancestries?
