I agree in an obscure way. I believe that it is a sin to put our own needs first instead of doing what Jesus says to do and that is to love our neighbor as ourselves. If we all did that there would be no poverty, but Jesus knows everything; thus He knows that man will love ourselves most....which causes some to be rich and more to be poor.

Sin is often the cause of poverty.
But poverty is by no means the only cause. If you live in the west (USA or Western Europe) you / we really have no concept of poverty. Even the poorest in the USA are rich compared to most 3rd world countries.
But more to the point, in Matthew, Mark, and in John (below), Jesus tells us...
John 12:8
"For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always."
It really just depends upon your definition of what true poverty is. Those without Christ are the most impoverished.

I think Jesus said that the poor will always exist. Well sin is a prime reason, but also because lots of people look the other way.

I think poverty will always be with us because there will always be lazy, uneducated masses who care about the cellphones and fake nails more than paying their real bills. There will always be people who live beyond their means and make stupid financial decisions. I am not sure it has to do with sin.

Sin is not the cause of poverty.
People not caring is the cause of poverty.
If there were a God, he'd do something about it.
