Used to be the northern end of Manhattan Island, called Dyker Heights, that was highly Irish. I used to go to dance halls there, but once a fight broke out. Areas change in New York City...very rapidly. Not many Irish communities remaining. Once there were mostly Italian and irish sections, today viturally every area is mixed except for certain pockets, sometimes as little as three blocks square, which is dominated by one ethnic group. Chinatown in Lower Mnahattan is an example. Hasidic Jews on Ocean Parkway in Brooklyn, another example. But Irish...I think they're gone. Good luck.

I don't know where you live, but I lived in the Bronx most of my life and haven't seen anything like that.
Wait, I take that back. I saw a naked man in the street in Manhattan masturbating to every car that passed by.
OK, you must live near the villiage in Manhattan. That is freak show central.
I have to go to a church and sanctify myself after I've been there for over 5 minutes.

New York is New York. You are going to see a lot of things your not used to. Just toughen up and ignore the ignorance. There are so many people from different back grounds that I'm sure you have only touch the surface of what you will see.

Interesting, and repulsive all at once. I guess that's the "dirty" side to big city living. Helps make me be glad for my small town living.

Overcrowding. The people live on top of one another and so odd behavior is more noticeable.
