Razor burn is actually a skin irritation.
When you shave, you're basically peeling off part of your epidermis--the top layer of skin.
The redness is a normal response to tissue injury.
A moisturizing body lotion will help reduce dryness and itchiness after shaving.
Next time you shave, give irritated skin a break by making sure that it's well-hydrated before you graze a razor over it.
The best time to shave is after a shower or bath, your skin won't be dry, and your hairs will soften and stand up, so shaving will be less traumatic."
As a long-term treatment, topical acne preparations containing 2.5 or 5 percent benzoyl peroxide can help minimize razor bumps and lessen the chance that they will return.

If razor burn or bumps don't seem to heal in a few days, or if they look at all infected, see a doctor. Any signs of pus, increased swelling, heat in the area or throbbing are clues that infection may have set in.
Recurring razor bumps should probably be treated by a doctor, since repeat shaving will only make them worse.

There are two things. First of all.. .sit in the bath for like 10 minutes before you shave. Talk on the phone or something. The water will thin the hair which is why you may get razor burn. The hair is too thick and when you shave it pulls and causes razor burn. Sit in the water for a bit. Also, if you have ever waxed your legs, there is this balm that you put on your legs after you wax. If you get that balm and put it where you shaved it usually soothes the skin also.

Go to your local pharmacy and ask if they have or can get you some Resinol. It works almost immediately on razor burn! It's good for diaper rash and heat rash as well. Resinol is something that has been kept in my house since I was a baby and I will ALWAYS keep it in my house! It is absolutely one of the best things ever! Try buying an electric razor, no nicks, no bumps, no fuss. Not to mention, quicker and easier!

Once you feel a little itchy apply a tad bit of baby powder or corn starch and that will stop the itching that can cause razor burn and of course always use a new razor. Good luck

To get RID of it once you have it, try using an ointment made by monistat. It's called Soothing Care Chafing Relief Powder Gel. It's like no other product out there. It doesn't leave a sticky residue like lotion or neosporin. It leaves a silky feel that instantly soothes irritated razor burn. You can get it at Wal-Mart or any drug store and it works wonders. You can see a picture of it and send for a free sample at this website...it's where I first tried it.
